Astrakhan State Medical Academy
Founded in 1918, Astrakhan State Medical Academy is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the medium-sized city of Astrakhan (population range of 500,000-1,000,000 inhabitants), Astrakhan Oblast. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Astrakhan State Medical Academy (ASMU) is a small (uniRank enrollment range: 3,000-3,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Astrakhan State Medical Academy (ASMU) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study.
The grand opening of the University took place on November 9, 1918. More than 2000 students were enrolled in the first year of the University. Two faculties (natural and historical-philological) began their first academic year. Due to the great need for medical personnel and the desire of young people to master the profession of a doctor, by the decision of the University Council, a reception was also started in this specialty. In the 1918-1919 academic year, future physicians studied with students of the natural faculty.
Other possibilities in education
Students have a possibility not only to study medicine abroad but to receive a traineeship, participate in exchange programs, and apply for research funding. Students are able to enhance their professional capacity by participating in various projects. It may be prospective and exciting research work, in-depth study of medical innovations, association with experts of the chosen branch, and publishing of papers.
The University academic staff consists of honored scientists and academicians of the Russian Federation, honored workers of public health and sport, honored doctors and recipients of the Russian Government Award in Science and Technology.
The University professors are annually awarded with gold and silver medals for advanced Research and Development in the Moscow International Salon of Innovations and Investments.
The University is a ground for an active theoretical and clinical research and resolution of key public health issues. The research and recommendations of the ASMU Technology and Innovation Council are widely implemented by various medical institutions.

- Pre-Bachelor degrees
It includes undergraduate certificates, diplomas, foundation or associate degrees that usually take less than 2 years to complete.
- Bachelor degrees
It includes undergraduate bachelor degrees that usually take between 3 to 5 years to complete.
- Master degrees
It includes postgraduate master degrees that usually take between 1 to 3 years to complete.
- Doctoral degree
It includes postgraduate doctorate degrees that usually take over 4 years to complete.
