Established in 1974, Deakin University is named after an Australian Prime Minister, Alfred Deakin. It was Australia's first university to start the system of distance education. The university has been awarded Bronze Oceania Award and QS Wharton Reimagine Education Global Award. The faculty of the university provides its students with a number of subjects to choose according to their field of interest. Few of the subjects are Business, Psychology, Health, Social Development and Nursing.
Located in Australia, Deakin University features four campuses of which, Geelong Waurn Ponds campus is the first and main campus of the university. It is home to about 800 students. The university opened another campus in 1893, which is home to about 5,000 students. The campuses are known to be at a location that is nearby to restaurants, general stores, medical stores, cafes, gyms and few more shops that provide the students with all necessary goods and services.
Deakin University was awarded a fund of about 8 million dollars by the Australian Research Council for 23 research projects. Moreover, 100 undergraduate courses and 150 post-graduate courses are offered by the faculty. The university offers a number of subjects like humanities, social science, business, law, medicine, psychology, information technology and environmental sciences.The university has a remarkable list of alumni, including Julie Attwood (Member of Legislative Assembly, Queensland), Carolyn Hardy (CEO, UNICEF), Emma Alberici (Journalist, ABC) and Briony Cole (Gold Medalist, Commonwealth Games 2006).
