Nicolae Testemiţanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy
The State University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Nicolae Testemitanu" of the Republic of Moldova is the only higher education institution that trains doctors and pharmacists, becoming one of the most prestigious institutions in the country, being well recognized abroad.Nicolae Testemitanu" was established on the basis of the Institute of Medicine and the Institute of Pediatrics in Leningrad and representatives of other institutions of the Russian Federation.
The institute started its activity on October 20, 1945, having only one faculty - the one of General Medicine, which consisted of 32 chairs, with about 1000 students studying. The didactic process was carried out by 130 teachers, including 20 qualified doctors and 23 doctors in science.The founding of the State Institute of Medicine in Chisinau served as an impetus for the development of medical higher education and the strengthening of the health system in the republic. In 1954 the Faculty of Pediatrics was created, in 1959 - the Faculty of Dentistry, in 1963 - the Faculty of Preventive Medicine, and in 1964 - the Faculty of Pharmacy. The need for continuous training of specialists after graduation contributed to the establishment of the Faculty of Physicians' Training, in 1962.
In order to create the appropriate conditions for the good conduct of the scientific activity, the same year the Central Laboratory of Scientific Research was founded. In 1965 the Institute obtained the first category, and in 1967 it was entrusted to carry out new forms of continuous training differentiated by specialties of the future doctors - through subordinate and internship.Since 1990, the Institute bears the name of Nicolae Testemitanu (1927–1986) - Emeritus, illustrious scientist, talented educator and educator, statesman, experienced public health organizer, who has contributed substantially to the organization and development of the system of protection of health in our country. He was a militant promoter of the national rebirth, sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Moldova.
On July 25, 1991, the State Institute of Medicine "Nicolae Testemitanu" from Chisinau was reorganized into the University. In 1996 the institution was given a new name - the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Nicolae Testemitanu" of the Republic of Moldova.In 1992, with the transition to a higher level - postgraduate, to train the future medical specialists and pharmacists through residency, the Faculty of Residential and Clinical Secondary Education opens.Currently, the USMF "Nicolae Testemitanu" is a higher education institution, which prepares medical and pharmaceutical staff, in accordance with modern visions and international training requirements for future specialists.
During 71 years of activity, the University has trained over40 thousand doctors and pharmacists, out of which over 7000 work in medicalinstitutions abroad. Currently, in the university chairs, including theclinical ones located in 88 modern clinics and polyclinics, they are studyingmore than 7300 young people from the Republic of Moldova and from 32 othercountries of the world.In 2009, the USMF "Nicolae Testemitanu" obtained the Quality Certificate, implementing the Quality Management System according to the ISO 9001: 2008 standard, and from 2016 - according to ISO 9001: 2015. TheUniversity is a member of the Association of Medical Schools of Europe (2011),of the Association of International Universities (2012), of the Association forMedical Education of Europe (2013) and is registered in the World Directory ofMedical Schools.
The basic mission of the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Nicolae Testemitanu" of the Republic of Moldova is masterfully defined by the key role it plays both in the process of reforming the higher medical education and the health system in the country. Connecting to everything modern in university education, developing and deepening theactivities of scientific research, technology and innovation in the field ofmedicine, the rhythmic development of the clinical activity are the three components that determine the current image of the University.
In 2019, the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy"Nicolae Testemitanu" of the Republic of Moldova obtained the statusof an internationally accredited institution by the World Federation forMedical Education (WFME). In this context, the University received on June 19,the Certificate of confirmation of the international accreditation for a termof 5 years, issued according to Protocol no. 46 of June 14, 2019 of theAccreditation Council of the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating(IAAR) of Kazakhstan- entity authorized by WFME with internationalcertification right of educational institutions.
